OPay Extends ₦1.2bn Scholarship Programme to UNILORIN

OPay, a prominent financial services provider in the country, has broadened the reach of its N1.2 billion 10-year scholarship programme to include the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), reinforcing its dedication to supporting the next generation of leaders in Nigeria.

With this development, UNILORIN becomes the latest institution to benefit from the expansive nationwide scheme designed to eliminate financial challenges for students with strong academic performance.

The programme offers crucial assistance to students struggling with tuition and daily living costs while also highlighting OPay’s long-term goal of fostering talent and contributing to social and economic development through education.

Dauda Gotring, the managing director of OPay, referred to the scholarship as a deliberate investment in the country’s future.

“This ₦1.2 billion 10-year scholarship program is not only about supporting today’s students but about investing in Nigeria’s future. We are committed to nurturing the brilliant minds who will shape the nation’s progress for years to come,” Gotring added.

The collaboration was officially sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the University of Ilorin.

Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, the vice chancellor of the university, conveyed his gratitude and praised the scholarship as both timely and beneficial.

“We would like to express our gratitude to OPay for their remarkable scholarship initiative to support our students here at UNILORIN. This initiative shows that OPay is aligning with the education agenda of the federation,” Egbewole asserted.

Having already impacted students in a number of tertiary institutions nationwide, the scholarship programme showcases OPay’s expanding influence beyond digital financial services, as it establishes itself as a driver of educational support and youth advancement.

As the initiative grows, OPay continues to uphold its commitment to fostering a more inclusive and promising future—supporting one student at a time.
