NUC grants approval for 18 academic programmes at Federal University, Kachia

The National Universities Commission has given its approval for 18 full-time academic programmes at the recently established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, located in southern Kaduna.

The university’s vice-chancellor, William Qurix, shared the news of the approval through a statement released on Tuesday by the institution’s registrar, Sanusi Gambo.

Mr Qurix stated that the newly approved programmes, which will commence in the 2025/2026 academic year, cover significant fields such as basic medical sciences, allied health sciences, and computing.

He noted that this approval came after the successful conduct of resource verification for new programmes as well as the revalidation of previously existing ones, which were both carried out by the NUC.

According to him, this accomplishment represents a shared success and serves as evidence that FUASK is positioned to emerge as a leading hub for applied sciences and technology.

He listed the approved courses to include Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Software Engineering, Doctor of Pharmacy, B.Sc. Information Technology, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Environmental Resource Management, B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Sc. Anatomy, B.Sc. Physiology, B. Medical Laboratory Science, and B. Radiography.

Additional approved programmes are B. Health Information Management, B. NSc. Nursing Sciences, B.Sc. Architecture, B.Sc. Quantity Surveying, and B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry.

Mr Qurix expressed appreciation to the NUC “for its continuous support and guidance.”

Mr Qurix added, “This approval is a bold endorsement of our commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the advancement of applied sciences in Nigeria.”

He further stated, “The inclusion of critical programmes like medicine, pharmacy, and software engineering marks a turning point in our mission to provide industry-relevant, solution-driven education for national development.”
