Delta Government Approves N6.7bn to Access UBEC Grant

The government of Delta State has approved N6.7 billion as its counterpart contribution to secure funding from the Universal Basic Education Commission, aimed at boosting education in the state.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, on Saturday in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.
He said, “The State Executive Council has approved the release of N6.7bn as the state’s counterpart funding to access the Universal Basic Education Commission grant for educational development.”
He added, “The N6.7bn Universal Basic Education counterpart funding will enable the state to draw matching grants for the construction, renovation, and equipping of our primary and secondary schools in the state.”
It is worth recalling that The PUNCH previously reported on the poor state of infrastructure in many primary and secondary schools within the state, including Ezechima Grammar School, Obior, in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Following this, Aniagwu also revealed that the government has approved the procurement and setup of workshop tools and equipment for Omadino Technical College and Model Technical College, Oghara-Efe.
Furthermore, approval has been given for the development of an administrative block, student hostels, dining and kitchen areas, and workshops for mechanics and welding at the newly established Model Technical College in Akugbene; along with a revised contract sum for the ongoing Model Technical College project in Irri.
