Director tasks nursing students on professional ethics

ABA (Sundiata Scholar) – Abia Mrs Charity Ekwuribe, Director, Nursing Services, Abia State Ministry of Health, has advised nursing students to always abide by the rules and regulations guiding the profession, as they take the first step into their career.

Ekwuribe gave the advice on Friday at the second matriculation of the students of St. Anthony’s College of Nursing in Aba, Abia, for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The director, who was represented by her Personal Assistant, Mrs Nwokocha Victoria, said integrity, compassion, and respect for patients were paramount in the nursing profession.

She therefore urged the students to adhere to professional ethics.

“I commend the institution’s management and staff for their efforts in maintaining standard in the teaching and practicing of nursing education.

“I urge the management of the college to ensure that registration with the nursing services be completed to ensure their graduates are certified.”

In her speech, the Director/Founder of St. Anthony’s College, Mrs Laura Nzeribe, congratulated the new students for their decision to pursue a career in nursing.

Nzeribe urged them to obey the rules and be committed to their studies which in turn would ensure they attain leadership positions in the healthcare industry.

“Let us strive for excellence and seek knowledge.

”You should also be guided by wisdom, integrity and passion for humanity,” she said.

The Director expressed confidence in the ability of the students to excel in their academic pursuits and become valuable contributors to the society.

Dr Roseline Nwokiro, the Provost of the College, while congratulating the new students, emphasised the importance of them taking their studies seriously, to achieve academic goals.

Nwokoro explained that the college was accredited by the relevant regulatory bodies, and that their certificates were recognised globally.

Similarly, Mrs Ngozi Dike, Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Abia State chapter, emphasised on the importance of adhering to professional ethics.

Dike, who was represented by her Vice Chairman, Mr Gilbert Obioma, cited kindness, compassion and respect for patients, as the core values that should guide the students practice in the nursing profession.

“I urge you to use every instrument provided for you during your studies, to excel and give back to society after your graduation,” she said. (NAN)
