Police Confirm Killing of UNIMED Registrar

The Ondo State Police Command has officially confirmed the death of Mr Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran, who served as the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED).
The spokesperson for the command, Olusola Ayanlade, verified the incident during a phone interview with the media.
As stated by Ayanlade, the Registrar passed away during the early hours of Thursday, 17th July, noting that the incident was reported at the Fanibi Division in Akure.
He stated, “I can confirm to you that the man was killed. From the information I have at my disposal, two men came out of the bush, and they forced a substance into another person’s mouth. Meanwhile, I cannot confirm to you that the substance was poisonous; an autopsy will do that.”
Ayanlade also noted that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigative Department for a comprehensive investigation. He urged anyone with useful information about those responsible for the heinous act to share it with the police.
In a related statement, the public relations officer of the university, Isaac Oluyi, equally confirmed the passing of Mr Adeniran.
He described the event as deeply distressing and noted that it has plunged the entire university community into mourning.
Oluyi explained that the late Registrar had been at work as recently as Monday, 14th July 2025, and emphasised that the exact cause of his death is yet to be determined.
Mr Adeniran was appointed as the third substantive Registrar of UNIMED on 6th January 2025 and served in that capacity until his untimely death on 17th July 2025.
His body has since been taken to a nearby hospital and placed in the mortuary.
