WAEC refutes 2025 WASSCE cancellation, results to be released August 4

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied the rumours spreading online that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates has been cancelled, labelling the claims as both false and misleading.
WAEC Nigeria’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, refuted the allegations, referring to them as the actions of “mischief-makers.”
“The examination has not been cancelled and the marking of scripts has already been completed,” she confirmed.
She also assured the public that the council was proceeding as planned with the release of the results.
“Results are expected to be released on or before Thursday, August 4,” Adesina said.
The misinformation, which started circulating on Saturday, July 19, claimed that both the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC had jointly annulled the exam due to extensive malpractice, including leaked questions and unauthorised distribution of materials
However, Adesina dismissed the suggestion that any such directive had been issued, reaffirming WAEC’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of its operations.
“We urge stakeholders and the general public to disregard the said publication,” she advised.
