UI Begins 2025/2026 Post-UTME as 14,000 Candidates Compete for Admission

The University of Ibadan (UI) has started its Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) screening for the 2025/2026 academic year, with over 14,000 candidates vying for a place at Nigeria’s oldest university.

The screening process, which commenced on Monday, drew a large number of aspiring undergraduates aiming to secure admission into various academic programmes offered by the institution.

Nonetheless, despite the high number of applicants, the university is anticipated to admit fewer than 5,000 students in accordance with its approved intake capacity.

At the beginning of the exercise, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Peter Olapegba, together with other senior members of the university’s management, was present to oversee the orderly conduct of the screening process.

Health officials from the university’s medical centre were also stationed at the screening venues to offer medical assistance and to ensure the safety and welfare of both the candidates and the university personnel.

Available data show that the University of Ibadan admitted approximately 4,215 students during the previous academic session.

This intense competition reflects UI’s enduring status for academic distinction and the increasing demand for tertiary education across Nigeria.

The Post-UTME exercise is set to continue throughout the week, with the results playing a major role in shaping the university’s final list of admitted candidates for the 2025/2026 academic session.
