FG set to take action against illegal satellite campuses




The Federal Government has stated that it will no longer tolerate the operation of illegal satellite campuses and affiliations with foreign unaccredited universities in Nigeria.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who made this known on Thursday, November 12 in Abuja during the inauguration of the 34th meeting of the National Standing Committee (NSC) on the evaluation of foreign qualifications, stated that the era of “Boys Quarter” degrees is over.

He remarked that the NSC will determine the Nigerian equivalent of certificates and degrees of foreign institutions. Adamu also noted that an evaluation of certificates obtained by Nigerians from foreign universities will be carried out as well.

Adamu directed the Committee to ensure that “the quality groundwork already laid for evaluation is progressively improved upon in such a manner that inspires national and international confidence”.

According to the Minister, the move by the government is to ensure that Nigerian students obtain foreign qualifications that are internationally competitive, has high academic ranking and moral excellence.
