The recently renamed Niger State University of Education in honour of the late Engineer Abdulkhadir Abdullahi Kure, a former governor of the state, has been given the go-ahead by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Prof. Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, the Chairman of the Implementation Committee, revealed this information on Thursday during a news conference held at the university’s main campus, which was once the Niger State College of Education, Minna.
He stated that the citadel will begin with 4 faculties and 41 undergraduate courses. Professor Yahaya praised Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for making significant investments in the field of education and seeing to it that the AA Kure University of Education—previous governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu’s dream—has come to fruition on May 5, 2016.
“I want to especially appreciate the Farmer Governor of Niger state for earmarking N20 billion in the 2024 budget for the immediate take-off of the AA Kure University of Education. It is indeed a dream come through for an idea that was conceived about eight years ago when I was Commissioner”.
Yahaya, who expressed gratitude to Governor Bago for facilitating the establishment of the citadel, which he claimed was modelled after the Ambrose Ali University, old Bendel state, promised that AA Kure University of Education would be the first of its kind in the West African sub-region as well as in Nigeria with the package.
“The NUC after resource verification has graciously approved for the immediate take-off of the AA Kure University of Education for the 2023/2024 academic session with 4 Faculties and 21 undergraduate Courses”.
According to Professor Yahaya, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is already enlisting the AA Kure University of Education for the 2024–2025 academic year in four faculties: Technical and Vocational Education, Education, Arts and Social Sciences, and Science and Education. The university is the 270th in Nigeria and the 63rd state-owned institution.
Professor Yahaya said that prospective students can apply through the university’s main campus at the Niger State College of Education, Chanchaga Minna, but cautioned them against believing false information provided by scammers on its launch.
Speaking as well, Professor Mohammed Yakubu Auna, Acting Vice Chancellor and Provost of the College of Education in Minna, pledged to do everything in his power to guarantee that the institution satisfies international academic standards.
