The crisis at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (AAU) has taken a dramatic turn after the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Asomwan Adagbonyin, was requested to step down by the university’s newly formed Governing Council.
According to reports, Adagbonyin’s exit would clear the door for a peaceful resolution to the university’s hydra-headed difficulties.
Adagbonyin confirmed his resignation in a letter to members of the University Senate on Friday (29/8/2024), stating that he would hand over the office of Acting Vice-Chancellor to the newly elected Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Samuel Olowo, as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor.
He said that the new Acting Provost of the University’s College of Medicine, Prof. Samuel Olowo would take full charge of the University pending the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor.
According to Adagbonyin, “On Wednesday August 28th, 2024, the University’s Governing Council announced a transition plan for the University towards the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
“I will, by this arrangement, be stepping aside next week and handing over the office of Acting Vice-Chancellor to the newly elected Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Samuel Olowo, as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor.
“I want to thank each and everyone of you that rendered me support in various ways which made it possible for my team and I to make our modest contributions to the development of Ambrose Alli University, even as we navigated the turbulent waters, I thank you all” he declared.
