ABU Alumni offers scholarships to 24 indigent students


ZARIA (Sundiata Scholar) – Kaduna State The International Students Alumni Association, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has offered 24 indigent students of the Department of Political Science and International Studies of the university scholarships.
The alumni’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Shu’aibu, made this known in a statement issued in Zaria on Sunday.
Shuaibu said the gesture was part of the association’s efforts at giving the indigent students some reprieve during their academic programme.
The PRO stated that the Vice-Chancellor (V-C), Prof. Kabiru Bala, together with the National President of the association, Amb. Muntari Kaita, presented each of the beneficiaries with letters of the scholarship award.
He quoted Kaita as saying: “We have in the last two weeks disbursed the scholarship to each of the students to enable them meet up with their financial commitments.”
According to the president, the scholarship covers course registration and tuition expenses.
reports that the association’s executives had before the presentation ceremony paid an appreciation visit on the vice-chancellor.
Kaita appreciated Bala for the support given to the association, attributing the successes achieved by the alumni to the enormous support it was enjoying from him.
The president also commended the V-C over the progress recorded since his assumption of office, in spite of some critical challenges such as electricity bills faced by the university.
He intimated the V-C on the progress made on the renovation of the e-library at the Department of Political Science and International Studies.
Kaita expressed optimism that it would be completed and inaugurated before the end of the month and end of Bala’s tenure as V-C.
He commiserated with the V-C and the university community over the demise of the Deputy Registrar (Alumni Relations and Advancement), Malam Bashir Munnir.
Kaita further thanked the university management, the head of department, and the lecturers for their unwavering support towards the success of the association’s activities.
In his remarks, the vice-chancellor lauded the association for being one of the most active alumni associations in the university.
Bala emphasised that since his contact with the association, “the executive members had been very serious and focused on their objectives and giving back to their Alma Mater. (NAN)
