Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke increased the salary of teaching and non-teaching staff of Osun State University (Uniosun) by 25% and 35%, respectively.
Speaking at the institution’s 14th convocation event at the Osogbo campus over the weekend, Adeleke stressed that the university is running smoothly because there are no strikes or labour unrest among workers.
He said: “Uniosun has established a ‘no-strike, no Aluta’ tradition, and it is these that keep the University up when other schools are down. This culture of no strike and no aluta does not in any way presuppose oppression or dictatorship. Rather, it is an indication of good leadership at all levels of the University governance.”
He stressed that his government prioritizes the welfare of workers, stating, “In line with our commitment to the well-being of our citizens and the advancement of education in Osun State, we have approved a 25% salary increase for teaching staff and a 35% increase for non-teaching staff of this University.”
Professor Clement Adebooye, the Vice-Chancellor, attributed the institution’s achievement to its staff’s dedication and hard work.
He noted: “We secured additional admission quota for our Nursing from 75 to 150, and Law from 50 to 100. We increased our student intake from 4500 in the previous year to 7405.”
