Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education matriculates 2,412 students

A total of 2,412 new students have been officially enrolled at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri (AIFUE), with 2,370 admitted into bachelor’s degree programmes and 42 into the Professional Diploma in Education.

This occasion marked the institution’s inaugural matriculation ceremony following its elevation to a full University of Education by the Federal Government in 2023.

During the event, the acting vice chancellor, Prof. A.C. Onyeka, reiterated the university’s dedication to transforming teacher education.

He pointed out that AIFUE is committed to merging innovation, research, and internationally recognized teaching strategies to train top-tier educators.

“Our mission is clear: to nurture individuals who will not only teach but also inspire, lead, and drive positive change in the educational sector and beyond.”

He explained that the creation of AIFUE is a demonstration of the federal government’s resolve to reinforce the quality of teacher education as a cornerstone of national progress.

“Education is the key to shaping minds, fostering creativity, and building a progressive and prosperous society. At AIFUE, we are committed to ensuring that every student who passes through our institution is equipped with the knowledge, the skills, and the values needed to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.”

The vice chancellor advised the newly admitted students to take their matriculation oath seriously, treating it as a serious commitment to obey the institution’s rules and conduct themselves properly throughout their academic tenure.

He warned that any student found guilty of misconduct, including document forgery, falsification of academic information, impersonation, or participation in financial fraud, will be subject to legal prosecution and dismissal from the university.

“All students are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and responsibility. Violations of university regulations will not be tolerated, and disciplinary actions, including legal consequences and expulsion, will be enforced to maintain order and protect the academic community.”

He noted that gaining admission into Alvan Ikoku Federal University should be seen not only as an honour but also as a duty to develop into capable professionals and morally upright individuals ready to make a valuable impact on the world.
