Folorunsho Ariyo, a secondary school student, was killed by her captors after being abducted with her family in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)’s Dutse axis.
On Sunday, January 7, 2024, gunmen broke into Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse and abducted ten people, among them Folorunsho, her mother, and three siblings.
The remains of Folorunsho and Nabeeeha Al-kadriyar were reportedly among four kidnapped victims’ corpses that were dumped at Ida, close to Ushafa in the Bwari Area Council.
The girl was the daughter of the Chief Legal Officer of the National University Commission (NUC), who was born in Ekiti State.
Family sources told the publication that the Ariyo family could only raise roughly N5 million to free their members, and that the kidnappers had wanted a ransom of N60 million.
According to a family source, “as of last Friday, talks were still ongoing, and we were optimistic of a positive outcome until we were contacted to pick up her body.”
On Sunday, January 14, 2024, the teenage girl was buried in Abuja’s Dutse Cemetery; the other family members are still with their kidnappers.
