Army Chief Awards N2.5 Million Scholarship to UNIMAID Student




On Thursday, the Nigerian Army awarded a N500,000 cheque to Bukar Nana-Fatima in Maiduguri, Borno State, as part of the Chief of Army Staff Special Scholarship program for her first academic session.

Ms Nana-Fatima, 18, a student of Islamic law at the University of Maiduguri earned this scholarship after successfully undergoing a screening process among various applicants.

The cheque was presented by Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, in Maiduguri.

According to Maj.-Gen. Shuaibu, the scholarship will provide Ms. Nana-Fatima with N500,000 each academic session for the next five years, aimed at alleviating her financial burdens and ensuring a smoother academic journey.

He said, “This event serves as a reflection of the Nigerian Army’s dedication to promoting education and providing opportunities for young people, especially those who are faced with significant challenges in the wake of insurgency.’’

The commander added that the scholarship was established by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to lay the groundwork for peace and development by empowering deserving students who demonstrate academic potential and dedication.

Maj.-Gen. Shuaibu expressed gratitude to the COAS for this innovative initiative, which supports academic advancement.

In response, Ms. Nana-Fatima expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Nigerian Army for the scholarship and pledged to excel in her studies as a way of giving back.
