ASUU Announces Indefinite Strike, Halts Operations at Sokoto State University

The Sokoto State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared a total, all-encompassing, and indefinite strike, effective from Wednesday.

The union explained that the strike was caused by the inability of the university management, governing council, and the state government to resolve the long-standing issues previously raised by the union.

It further assured that there would be full enforcement of the strike, adding that all activities within the university would be completely shut down.

During a congress meeting held at the Centre for Caliphate Studies on Wednesday, the union reviewed the government’s response to its demands.

Union members voiced their dissatisfaction with the level of commitment displayed by the relevant authorities, leading to the union’s decision to immediately suspend all academic activities, including statutory meetings, examinations, student supervision, as well as the marking and grading of scripts.

“The union also activated its strike monitoring committee to ensure strict compliance with the directive,” according to the communique issued at the conclusion of the congress.

The resolution was jointly signed by the ASUU-SSU Chairperson, Dr Saidu Abubakar, and the Secretary, Hassan Aliyu.
