Bago urged to restore Niger public schools to former standards

The Kutigi Old Students Association, class of 1984, urged the Niger government to take urgent action to restore public schools in the state to their former glory during their second reunion meeting in Minna, marking their 40th graduation anniversary.

Abubakar Shaba, the head boy of the class, emphasized the need for urgent action to revive public schools in the state. He also called on the Niger government to prioritize school security to ensure a conducive atmosphere in the educational sector.

Mr. Shaba requested that adequate security measures be implemented in public schools and facilities, citing concerns over vandalism by hoodlums.

“We recall the good old days when schools in Niger state were in good shape. Unfortunately, over the years, the situation has deteriorated, and the facilities have become a shadow of themselves due to poor maintenance culture,” he said.

Additionally, he paid tribute to 25 of their classmates who have passed away, underscoring that welfare remains a top priority.

Baba Alfa, Assistant Head Boy of the 1984 set, lamented the current state of their former school, stating that education must be prioritized as a fundamental pillar for national development. He also revealed that the association has been supporting the families of their deceased classmates.

Mr. Alfa mentioned that the association operates a cooperative society where members can access loans, which is part of their efforts to support one another.
