Benue State University graduates best globally, says VC
Professor Joseph Tor Iorpuu, the vice chancellor of Benue State University in Makurdi, has praised the calibre of the university’s graduates, saying that they are succeeding in their chosen fields across the globe.
During the one-week celebration of the university’s 30th anniversary, which culminated on Friday at the College of Medical Sciences auditorium, Professor Iorapuu gave a speech and mentioned that the Benue State House of Assembly currently houses fifteen university products.
“In the United Kingdom, three students of Benue State University came to greet me in the church. They are found in Nasarawa State, Federal Capital Territory and are doing well in their various trades,” he said.
He expressed optimism the university would overcome its power supply challenges in the next thirty years, citing the high calibre items that the university’s graduates have put on exhibit beside the auditorium.
Thus, the Vice-Chancellor urged everyone to remain optimistic as knowledge truly is power and expressed gratitude to everyone for taking the time to attend.
As the ceremony’s chairperson and former vice chancellor, Professor Charity Angya, stated in her remarks that the university’s thirty-year anniversary has given management the opportunity to evaluate its history, present, and future goals.
“We are celebrating Benue State University’s 30 years of impact, productivity and excellence. All hands must be on deck to sustain the achievements posted so far,” Angya said.
The celebration featured a carnival/rag day for the students, an Igede cultural performance, an old-school music carnival by the Idoma cultural group, and a stage performance by the Tiv students dressed traditionally.
Also on the schedule for the 4th day was the students’ enterprises competition at the COHS exhibition stand mounted by the Center for Entrepreneurship students, Center for Food and Technology Research, Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Information and Public Relations Unit and Mass Communication among others.
