Borno has decreased out-of-school children from two million to 800,000: Zulum

The Borno government claims to have made significant progress in tackling the problem of out-of-school children, lowering the number in the state from more than two million to 800,000.

Mr Zulum made the announcement on Tuesday in Maiduguri, at the inauguration of 27 Local Government Education Secretaries and the delivery of 57 school monitoring vehicles.

“Since assuming office in 2019, education has been a paramount focus of my administration. Initially, our efforts were directed towards rebuilding our devastated school infrastructure to provide access to over two million out-of-school children in Borno.

“I am grateful that, by the grace of Allah, the number of out-of-school children has now decreased to less than 800,000,” he remarked.

The governor stated that the vehicles inaugurated for the Local Government Education Authorities are intended to improve mobility and effective supervision, and that they must only be used for official purposes by licenced drivers.

He asked the commissioner of education to produce quarterly reports on each education secretary’s performance, warning that anyone who performed below expectations would be replaced.
