CASIO develops new calculator to improve students’ learning outcomes
CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE has launched an exclusive edition calculator built specifically for Nigerian educators and students, as part of its commitment to provide the best possible assistance and innovation.
The latest scientific calculator, fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition, combines basic calculations with sophisticated features such as differential computation, integrations, complex numbers, matrix and vector calculations, and many more.
Takashi Seimiya, managing director of CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE, said at the calculator’s launch in Lagos that the device demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing educators and students with the tools they need to excel in science, mathematics, and engineering.
According to him, CASIO is committed to supporting the Nigerian educational sector, particularly through collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education of Lagos State.
“Our initiatives include material development and providing the right tools that enhance students’ learning experiences. We are bullish on Nigeria because we see immense potential in the educational growth of the country, and we are dedicated to playing a significant role in upskilling students and educators with advanced educational tools,” Seimiya said.
He stated that calculators, as a tool, help students learn mathematical ideas and enhance their confidence in solving complex problems.
Shimada Koji, general manager of CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE’s education business marketing division, added that the calculator is exclusively created for the Nigerian curriculum, with a focus on meeting the educational demands of Lagos State.
Koji stated that the model is consistent with the Lagos State curriculum and provides students with a comprehensive tool to help their learning in a variety of advanced mathematics and scientific fields.
He stated that the goal for the Nigerian education system is a continual cascade of training sessions centred on the use of genuine CASIO calculators.
He stated that the brand hopes to make these high-quality educational materials available across the country, ensuring that every student and teacher can benefit from the advanced functionalities our calculators offer.
Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education for Lagos State, praised CASIO and the Lagos State Government’s collaborative efforts, saying the state government recognises the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing the vision of bridging the gap between theory and practical application.
Alli-Balogun stated that collaborations between SKLD/CASIO Japan and Lagos will help to harness technology to change education in Lagos State.
He went on to say that working together will open up opportunities to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and creativity they need to prosper and contribute to the nation’s growth.
“Our goal is to support the educational ecosystem in Nigeria with reliable, innovative tools that enhance learning outcomes,” Koji said.
Matsunaga Kazuyoshi, Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stated that Casio’s vision and attitude on creative contribution were ideally aligned with Nigerian teachers.
He stated that employing the calculator can help Nigerian scientific and technology education diversify its industrial base and establish value chains.
