Professor Chidozi C. Nwobi-Okoye from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has earned recognition as one of the top 0.05% scholars worldwide in the domain of genetic algorithm, representing a major academic accomplishment for the university.

This recognition was shared in a press statement released on Sunday by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, who referred to the milestone as a moment to honor academic brilliance and global acknowledgment.

“We are excited to celebrate one of our faculty members, Prof. C.C. Nwobi-Okoye, for being honoured as one of the world’s highly ranked scholars, top 0.05% in genetic algorithm,” the statement read. “He is being celebrated in recognition of his productivity, noteworthy impact, and quality of scholarly work.”

A Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Prof. Nwobi-Okoye is acclaimed for his work in areas such as optimisation, artificial intelligence for engineering, energy system modeling, and operations research.

As stated in the announcement, he has made significant strides in international research by serving as a reviewer for top-tier global journals. Among his accolades is the Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer Award in 2018. Earlier, in 2012, he was shortlisted for the ENI Award, which is widely recognized as the “Nobel Prize for Energy Research.”

Further establishing his global academic prominence, the Times Higher Education listed Prof. Nwobi-Okoye in 2018 as one of the most esteemed scholars in the academic world. He was later invited to participate in expert panels for university ranking assessments in 2018, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

He is also the current Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Education Science and Technology (AJEST), which is managed by the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCA).

Responding to the news, the university pointed out that this honor is a reflection of its continual advancement under the leadership of its Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, in elevating COOU’s global academic reputation.

“COOU is taking her pride of place in the comity of universities around the world—a modest effort of the shared leadership of the Varsity’s Acting Vice Chancellor by ensuring that no one is left behind,” the statement concluded.
