Ebonyi University Hospital Doctors Threaten Strike Over Unrest

The Association of Resident Doctors at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) in Uburu, Ebonyi State, has issued a warning that they may halt services at the institution if the ongoing unrest is not addressed.

Tensions at the hospital have been escalating since last week following a protest by the host community against the management of the medical teaching facility.

The doctors reached this decision during an emergency meeting held on Sunday, after which a communique signed by the associationโ€™s President, Dr. Peace Ebisike, and Secretary, Mathew Nwachukwu, was released to the press.

The communique states, โ€œWe doctors are concerned about the negative impact of the recent unrest on our members and the quality of service delivery to patients.โ€

โ€œWe express regret that the situation has hindered effective patient management, ultimately defeating the purpose of establishing DUFUTH.โ€

The association urged the appropriate authorities and stakeholders to resolve the ongoing issues peacefully and restore stability to the hospital as soon as possible.

The doctors also reaffirmed their confidence in the hospitalโ€™s management, under the leadership of Professor Uzoma Agwu, and their commitment to the institutionโ€™s development.
