Edo Government Issues Promotion Letters to 8,476 Public School Teachers

On Thursday, the Edo State Government started distributing promotion letters to 8,476 teachers working in the state’s public schools.
The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, made this announcement in Benin City while engaging in an interactive discussion with journalists.
Iyamu explained that the process for promoting these teachers began back in February 2025 and has now culminated with the handing over of the letters to the successful recipients.
He emphasized that the goal of the promotion is to encourage the teachers to perform at their best.
The Commissioner for Education in Edo gave his assurance that the administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo remains committed to further improving the education sector.
He also mentioned that the teachers who were recently promoted would benefit from the new N75,000 minimum wage recently approved for Edo public and civil servants by the governor during the 2025 May Day event, where the wage was raised from N70,000 to N75,000.
Iyamu said, “We also have teachers who have been on a contract called Edo Supporting Teachers to Achieve Results (EdoSTAR). We are reviewing their appointments to see how we can absorb some of them who are qualified because we are very particular about those to employ. After all, the quality of teachers is the quality of our children.”
He added, “So, a lot is being done to see how we can get the best hands for the well-being and overall benefit of our students.”
He further stated, “An interview is currently ongoing for the recruitment of 500 teachers into the basic and senior secondary schools, as well as 100 teachers for technical colleges. The recruitment of teachers was to galvanise the workforce in the education sector.”
According to him, “The recruitment of 100 teachers into technical colleges in Edo State is to ensure that the youths acquire skills, in addition to normal educational certificates, to boost their employability, not only in the labour market but also to be self-employed. Besides the fact that you go to school to acquire certificates, the role of technical education is also very sacred.”
The Commissioner also pointed out that since taking office, the Okpebholo administration has increased the monthly subvention for Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, from N41 million to N500 million.
He also highlighted the recent induction of 128 medical students and 810 nursing students from AAU’s 2022 graduating class, who were not inducted during the administration of the former governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Iyamu also commended the Edo State governor for the extensive renovation and upgrade of schools across the three senatorial zones, along with the supply of educational resources such as chairs, desks, and books to public schools throughout the state.
