Education Minister tasks NUC on completion of nuclear energy curriculum
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has been instructed by Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman to move quickly to complete the Nuclear Energy Curriculum.
This is contained in a statement in Abuja on Thursday by the Director, Press and Public Relations in the Ministry, Mr Ben Goong.
According to Mamman, this would allow the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission, several universities in Nigeria, and polytechnics to start the training of nuclear scientists and technologists locally.
Goong, quoted Mamman as saying this when he received the leadership of the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) on a courtesy visit in Abuja.
He said that student scholarship awards will be given top priority by the federal government.
He said that students interested in pursuing Nuclear Science and related courses within and outside the country would be given due consideration.
Prior to this, Prof. Yusuf Ahmed, the Director-General of NAEC, stated that his commission was partnering with China and Korea to meet its needs for nuclear scientist training and that the nation needed to look on the inside for this.
Ahmed emphasised that the nation’s pursuit of a nuclear programme to meet its energy and pharmaceutical needs depended heavily on the development of its human capital.
