Education Minister to Present Convocation Lecture at LASU Today

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is scheduled to deliver the 28th convocation lecture at Lagos State University (LASU) today, April 8, 2025.

Speaking to reporters in Lagos yesterday, LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Ojo, revealed that the lecture will be chaired by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje. The lecture is titled, “Patriots, Citizenship and National Ownership, the imperative of collective responsibility for Nigeria’s future.”

She noted that among the total 8,711 students graduating, 192 earned First Class honors, 17 received unclassified degrees (MBBS/BDS), 3,076 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 achieved Second Class Lower Division, 990 were awarded Third Class, and 39 earned a pass.

Additionally, she announced that LASU would award honorary doctorate degrees to the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), and former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro, in recognition of their significant roles in the advancement of both the institution and the country as a whole.

Olatunji-Ojo pointed to several institutional milestones, including the successful accreditation of 43 out of 44 academic programs in the recent accreditation exercise, strategic collaborations aimed at promoting global competitiveness, better university rankings, advancements in research and innovation, developments in ICT, infrastructure upgrades, growth in internally generated revenue, and progress in sports.

The vice chancellor encouraged the graduating students to step into the world and make a meaningful difference in society. She also called on industry leaders to recognize and harness the vast potential of these graduates, stating that they are more than ready to add value to their organizations.
