Eni/NNPC Awards 30 Postgraduate Scholarships to Nigerian Graduates
Eni’s subsidiary, Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited (NAE), in collaboration with NNPC Limited and NAE PSC, has provided scholarships to 30 Nigerian graduates for postgraduate studies in universities in Nigeria and abroad for the 2024/2025 Scholarship Awards Scheme.
Out of the 30 recipients, 10 will study at various universities in the United Kingdom and Canada, while the remaining awardees will pursue their postgraduate education in Nigerian universities in fields such as Engineering, Geosciences, Petroleum and Environmental Technology, Renewable Energy, and Petroleum Law.
At the scholarship award ceremony held in Abuja, the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of NAE, Fabrizio Bolondi, congratulated the winners, emphasizing that the scholarship would enable them to follow their aspirations and achieve their career goals.
“The award ceremony highlights our continuous commitment to the future of education, innovation, and progress in Nigeria, and a moment of pride for the company to recognize the incredible talent and dedication of the scholars,” he said, urging the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies to fully benefit from the program.
The postgraduate scholarship program was established by NAE PSC partners in 2007 as part of their human capital development efforts aimed at promoting knowledge acquisition and addressing the skills gap in specialized fields relevant to deep offshore Oil&Gas operations in Nigeria.
So far, 320 graduates have benefitted from the postgraduate scholarship scheme, which was created to help train local professionals by providing the necessary knowledge and expertise within the industry.
Eni, through NAE, has also initiated various other sustainability projects in Nigeria, including those in health, education, water access, and infrastructure development, as well as empowerment programs for local communities.
These initiatives include the establishment of 22 integrated water systems for domestic use and irrigation in North-East Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), to improve water access for communities affected by the humanitarian crisis in the North-East.
Additionally, the company has donated Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in Port Harcourt, cardiothoracic equipment including a Heart-Lung Machine LivaNova (Sorin/Stockert) S5 complete system to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, and a Research and Innovation Laboratory to the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
Nigerian Agip Exploration (NAE) was established in 1996 to manage the company’s deep offshore exploration and production assets. NAE is notable for being the first oil and gas company in Nigeria to produce oil from the nation’s deep offshore fields. NAE holds interests in six deep offshore blocks in Nigeria, either as an operator or co-venture partner.
