Enugu Govt. is redefining education in Nigeria, says Commissioner

ENUGU (Sundiata Scholar) – Enugu State Government says it is redefining education through Smart Green Schools to bequeath to its youths, the skills and competence to be productive.

The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, said this in an interview with on Wednesday in Enugu.

reports that Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu state upon assumption of office initiated the smart school project across all 260 wards in Enugu state, to revolutionise the state’s educational landscape.

The project, which includes the construction of modern buildings and integration of cutting-edge technology into classrooms, ensured that students were equipped with digital skills necessary for the modern world.

Mbah said that the state, through its Ministry of Education, had been in the forefront of education policy reform in Nigeria.

He said that it was also bringing into fruition the Federal Ministry of Education’s aspiration of an education that was skill-oriented and experiential in learning.

He said that the state was a pacesetter in adopting a school model that equipped students with the relevant skills and competencies to be productive citizens to compete with their peers globally.

“We are doing this because we have a governor who has made education a priority investment for the people of Enugu.

“For the second year running, 33 per cent of our education budget was dedicated to the education sector.

“This is not an accident but an intentional intervention to leapfrog the economy of Enugu state from $4.4 billion to $30 billion for the next four to eight years.

“It is unprecedented and three times the benchmark required by the International Development Agencies.

“We are seeing the result across board both in the public, private, mission schools and even the special education centres are now winning in national competitions in all categories,” Mbah said.

The commissioner described it as a new social psychology about education from the rural to the urban environment in the state.

He added that children and parents now have a renewed hope in their potential to redefine the dignity of man. (NAN)
