KADUNA (Sundiata Scholar) – Dr Nasir Danladi-Bako, former Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has extolled the inclusive leadership style of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) Sokoto, Prof. Lawal Bilbis.
Danladi-Bako, now a lecturer at the Mass Communications Department of the university, made the commendation in a statement he issued in Kaduna on Tuesday.
According to the former Information Commissioner in Sokoto State, Bilbis had tremendously and meritoriously contributed to the academic and infrastructural growth of the university.
reports that Bako, a veteran broadcaster, themed the statement: “Fare thee well, Prof Lawal Bilbis”
He stated that Bilbis had identified areas of infrastructural needs , academic additions , faculty expansion and administrative delineations.
Danladi-Bako said, “He had also diligently ensured the general upliftment of the well-being of the staffers and students of the premier, most peaceful university in Nigeria.“On a personal level , I have been teaching Mass Communications at UDUS since February 2020 and on a few occasions Prof.
Bilbis would leave his office and walk to my classroom where I was taking lectures just to see how far I was faring.“
All the times he did this, the students were left in awe that a vice-chancellor would come into their class without any protocol.”Danladi-Bako explained that the outgoing vice-chancellor had left many legacies, among which were the accreditation of Mass Communications as a course as well as the establishment of the ‘University Campus Radio’.
He added that the campus radio, 89.7 FM, which started transmission on April 13 , 2024, was meant to benefit the students of Mass Communications, other departments and the university community in general.
Danladi-Bako also commended the construction of new buildings, pavements and sidewalks along with the improved horticulture, which were all done during Bilbis’s tenure. (NAN)
