Family of bullied student files N500 million lawsuit against Abuja school

The claim was filed in response to a viral video that surfaced online a few weeks ago showing Ms Bwala being tormented by her classmates.

Ms. Namitra Bwala’s family has filed a lawsuit against the Lead British International School in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

The claim was filed in response to a viral video that surfaced online a few weeks ago showing Ms Bwala being bullied by her classmates.

The family is also seeking the sum of N500 million, a public apology in two national dailies as general damages for failing in its obligation to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for their daughter.

The law suit, filed in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, alleges that the school’s failure to prevent the assault, notify her parents immediately, and conduct an investigation until the video went viral on social media while she was under the school’s supervision amounts to negligence.

They hope that the law suit will bring about drastic changes and adequate measures to prevent a re-occurrence of similar issues in the school.
