The Federal Government has allocated N47.5 billion for the first phase of upgrading 50 selected senior secondary schools (SSS) across the country.
Dr Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), announced this yesterday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Government Science Secondary School (GSSC) in Koton Karfe, Kogi State.
Ajayi stated that the GSSC at Koton Karfe was the only school in Kogi State to benefit from the initial phase of the intervention.
The executive secretary said the update was consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed commitments to Nigerians.
He asked other schools to be patient, adding theirs would be considered in the next phase.
“This is just the first phase. When this phase is completed, we can then report to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Education and say we have finished this phase.
“This will allow them to come and complete this project, and we will move unto the next phase.
“So, those schools that are not going to benefit from the first phase, I want them to be patient because after the first phase, we will come to them.
“The intervention for the first phase will cover about N47.5 billion for the 50 schools,” Ajayi said.
The executive secretary advised the head teacher of the school to support the contractor in charge of the project, particularly in terms of facility protection.
He advised the contractor to expedite work on the project to ensure that it is completed on time for inauguration in the next six months.
Maimuna Umar, Director of the Physical Planning Unit, stated that the commission would deliver four new structures to the school to ensure effective learning.
