MINNA – The National Examinations Council (NECO) has received praise from the Federal Ministry of Education for purchasing facilities that would increase the effectiveness of administering reliable exams.
The facilities were inaugurated on Saturday at the NECO Headquarters in Minna by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman.
The minister launched a block of schools, data centres, office space, and 70 new Toyota Hilux pickup trucks.
Mamman, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Andrew Adejo, said he had no doubt that the facilities would enhance NECO’s output.
He said the vehicles would be inadequate for the operations of the council, hence the need to acquire additional vehicles including speed boats to enable adequate coverage of the nation.
“The purchase of these vehicles is one step in the right direction,” he said.
The additional facilities, according to the minister, will significantly aid in facilitating the timely delivery of exam materials and assisting in the detection of certain exam malpractices.
According to him, the establishment of these facilities was a step towards achieving worldwide standards for the country’s public examination organisations.
Mamman gave NECO and other testing organisations the assurance that the government will keep helping them to make sure they function as best they could.
Prior to this, NECO Registrar Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi stated that the council had made sure that NECO test results were released on time since taking office in July 2021.
Wushishi claimed that the council had made employee wellbeing a top priority and had made sure they had insurance.
According to him, the council has outfitted and refurbished 36 state offices, including Abuja.
