Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa Expels 100 Students, Matriculates 1500

On Saturday, Dr. Hauwa Mohammed, the acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, announced that approximately 100 students had been expelled for involvement in exam malpractice.

She also mentioned that 1,500 students, including those in National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), and part-time programs, were officially matriculated for the 2024/2025 academic session.

She shared this information during the 41st matriculation ceremony held at the institution in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

In her keynote address, Dr. Hauwa Mohammed stated that these students were deemed eligible to begin their academic journeys in the ND or HND programs for the 2024/2025 academic year, hence the need for the matriculation.

“It may interest you to know that in the last academic session no fewer than 100 persons who engaged in examination malpractices were expelled from the polytechnic and such disciplinary action will continue to be administered,” she remarked.

“We welcome you all to this peaceful community where we mould students in both learning and character. I therefore urge you all to be very serious with your studies,” she emphasized.

She encouraged the students to be law-abiding so that the current peaceful environment conducive for teaching and learning can be maintained.

She also warned them against committing any form of exam malpractice, stating that anyone caught would face serious consequences from the school management.

Muhammad further cautioned them against participating in social vices, drug abuse, cultism, and urged them to foster peaceful coexistence among themselves.

In an interview, Dr. Muhammad added that under her leadership, the institution’s management would continue to enhance teaching, research, and learning.

“To maintain the academic quality of our programs, we have ensured to streamline the number of students admitted, based on the available infrastructure and resources we have,” she explained.

“At the same time, we have introduced new programs such as Railway Engineering Technology, Cement Technology, Welding, and more,” she highlighted.

Dr. Muhammad, who confirmed she is currently in her second six-month term as Acting Rector, vowed to continue prioritizing staff and student welfare and complete any projects initiated during her first term.

However, she clarified that her focus in this second term would be to emphasize skills acquisition so that graduates will not be dependent on white-collar jobs.
