On Thursday, the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) matriculated 4,925 students for the 2023/2024 academic year, issuing a strong warning against vices and other acts that could jeopardise its integrity.
Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, FUL Vice Chancellor, issued the warning during a ceremony on the university’s campus in Andankola, Lokoja.
The vice chancellor matriculated students into the university’s 57 programmes across seven faculties, charging them with upholding the university’s ideals and standards.
“Any violation of your oath will be met with appropriate sanctions, including dismissal.
“The mission of the university is to provide quality education, foster critical thinking, and produce well-rounded graduates who are equipped with the skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to society.
“Our vision is to be the best among the universities in Nigeria and one of the top 10 universities in Africa.
“We aspire to become a world-class university recognised for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.”
According to him, those guiding principles serve as the compass, “driving us toward academic innovation, social responsibility, and transformative impact.
“You are lucky bright minds joining our university family to bring unique talents, experiences, and aspirations to bear on their scholarships,” he said.
He also charged them with upholding the university’s ideals and standards, stating that there was zero tolerance for social vices like as cultism, examination malpractice, and indecent dressing.
The vice chancellor urged students to concentrate their academic goals and resist temptations to engage in detrimental behaviours.
