Female teacher charged with assault on four-year-old student

Dupe Ehiorobo, a female schoolteacher, came before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday after allegedly beating a four-year-old student.

The police charged Ms Ehiorobo, 45, a teacher at Access Ville School in Ipaja, Lagos, with assault.

However, the woman pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp John Iberedem, told the court that Ms Ehiorobo committed the act on May 13 at Access Ville School in Ipaja, Lagos.

According to him, Ms Ehiorobo abused the student by flogging him mercilessly over his body, causing injuries to his back and laps.

He claimed the class teacher flogged the pre-schooler for misbehaving.

Ms Iberedem stated that the offence violated Section 172 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Anyone found guilty of unlawful assault faces a year in jail under Section 172.

E. Kubeinje, the chief magistrate, admitted the defendant to N100,000 bail with two sureties in the same amount.

She ordered that the sureties provide proof of tax payment to the state government and that their addresses be confirmed.

Ms Kubeinje adjourned the case until October 10 for a hearing.
