FG should address unemployment given that student loans will boost enrollment—Bowen VC
Professor Jonathan Babalola, Vice Chancellor of Bowen University in Iwo, Osun State, has asked the Federal Government to create measures to combat the surge in unemployment, since student loans will enhance student enrollment in schools.
Babalola, addressing at the school entrepreneurship week, stated that many of his institution’s students are supporting themselves academically through enterprises they run on campus.
According to him, “What we have done is to make entrepreneurship compulsory for all students because we know that in these days, we need skills, and students need to develop their entrepreneurship skills in order to live well and succeed after leaving school.”
“The kind of thing we are doing now is what the government should do if we are increasing enrollment through student loans; make sure that when people are graduating, they are not depending on the government.”
Earlier, the school coordinator of the entrepreneurship center, Dr. Moronmubo Akinrinlola implored the government to build entrepreneurship villages and centres noting that “it will further encourage youths and students to acquire new skills to be self-reliant.”
He noted that alumnus of the school who are successful in entrepreneurship endeavours have been mentoring the students in several areas of skill acquisition.
