The federal government has announced intentions to unbundle the merger of the country’s federal technical colleges and science schools.
This was revealed by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, during a one-day stakeholder meeting on the Challenges and Issues Affecting Technical Colleges in the country.
Mamman voiced dissatisfaction with the merger of technical colleges and colleges of science, claiming that it destroyed the benefits of creating technical colleges across the country.
He said that technical colleges should only accept students who are interested in technical education.
The minister underlined that people who wish to pursue science programs should go to regular colleges and complete their degrees there because it was a mistake to have merged both schools.
Mamman also lamented the low enrolment of students in the technical colleges, noting that technical colleges were to teach skills to transform the country.
