FG to Tackle Youth Unemployment Through Technical and Vocational Training

Alhaji Nasiru Sani-Gwarzo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, stated that the current administration is dedicated to addressing youth unemployment by promoting technical and vocational education.

He made this remark on Saturday during the closing ceremony of the second edition of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Camp held in Jalingo.

Sani-Gwarzo, who was represented by Dr. Muyibat Olodo, Director of Technology and Science Education in the ministry, explained that the specialized training in rock tiling and interlocking was aimed at fostering innovation and creating job opportunities.

He mentioned that the certificates awarded to participants would support their academic advancement and improve their employment prospects.

He praised the state governments in the North East for partnering with the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure the success of the training program.

“In its efforts to build skills and an innovative workforce, the Federal Government launched an initiative to equip Nigerian youths with specialised skills in rock tiling and interlocking designs.”

The Permanent Secretary urged the students to take their training seriously, encouraging them to make their teachers and the government proud.

“This initiative underscores government’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation in modern construction and design,” he said.

Dr. Augustina Godwin, Commissioner for Education in Taraba State, stated that training students in tiling and interlocking serves as a strategic approach to reducing unemployment both now and in the future.

Godwin encouraged students to complement their training with strong moral values and godliness for the benefit of Nigerian society.

According to her, the success of the event demonstrated confidence that young people would no longer struggle with unemployment.

She applauded the Federal Ministry of Education for introducing the initiative and urged the ministry to maintain the momentum.

The Commissioner emphasized that Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State had placed a high priority on education by implementing a free education policy in the state.

She reiterated the administration’s commitment to transforming the state into a knowledgeable and intellectually advanced community within Nigeria.

Mr. Mohammed Hayatu, a participant from the Federal Science Teacher’s College, Jalingo, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for organizing the training.

Hayatu noted that the skills acquired would significantly help them achieve self-employment.

Similarly, Miss Hauwa Yahaya from the Federal Technical College, Gashua, thanked the Federal Ministry of Education for providing the training.

Yahaya assured that the government’s investment in their training would not be in vain.

The participants showcased the skills they had learned in tiling and interlocking by repairing sections of the campus at the Federal Technical College, Jalingo.
