The Misilli Community Development Foundation claims to have helped register 50 disadvantaged and vulnerable children in primary school.
The foundation’s founder, Isma’il Misilli, revealed this at a distribution of school bags and writing tools to vulnerable children in Gombe on Sunday.
Mr Misilli, who also serves as the director general of press affairs at Government House in Gombe, stated that the initiative aimed to help Gov. Inuwa Yahaya’s educational development efforts.
Mr Misilli, represented by the foundation’s chairman, Yusuf Hamza, stated that the foundation was created in 2019 and began operations in 2023.
“Currently, 150 poor and vulnerable children are benefiting from the foundation’s efforts.
“The foundation focuses on three key areas – education, infrastructure, and humanitarian services,” he said.
Mr Misilli highlighted the foundation’s other initiatives as installing solar street lights and drilling boreholes.
Speaking at the ceremony, A’ishatu Maigari, the state commissioner for education, was represented by Yusuf Mohammed, the director of school services, who praised the foundation for its assistance to disadvantaged students.
Mr Maigari, who was the guest of honour at the event, confirmed that the scheme was consistent with Mr Yahaya’s goal of enrolling street children in school.
Ibrahim Isa, director general of Gombe Media Corporation, complimented Mr Misilli for his commitment to disadvantaged children through the foundation and announced a donation of N200,000 to further support the cause.
Faruk Mu’azu, head of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Gombe State Council, expressed appreciation for the foundation’s activities and pledged to donate exercise books to the children on behalf of the union.
