Foundation Grants N123.7 Million in Scholarships to Healthcare Students


Through its Giving Back Initiative, the Attahiru Bafarawa Foundation has awarded scholarships totaling N123.7 million to 108 students pursuing nursing science in Sokoto State.
During separate ceremonies held in Sokoto on Sunday, Lawal Maidoki, the initiative’s chairman, stated that the scholarships aim to bolster the state’s healthcare workforce development.
Mr Maidoki disclosed that out of the recipients, 55 students are studying nursing and midwifery sciences, while 53 are enrolled in other healthcare-related disciplines at Gamji College of Nursing Sciences and Al Hudah College of Health Technology.
He detailed that N67.2 million was designated for students attending Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, while N56.5 million was allocated to those at Al Hudah College of Health Technology.
“This presentation is a significant step in fulfilling the Giving Back Initiative’s commitment to manpower development in health and other critical areas of human resource management,” Mr Maidoki stated.
He emphasized that the initiative remains dedicated to its main intervention areas, which include healthcare assistance, water provision, food distribution, and community empowerment.
Mr Maidoki encouraged individuals, associations, and corporate entities to partner in advancing humanitarian causes.
He further called on affluent individuals to replicate the former governor’s charitable actions and expressed gratitude to the educational institutions for granting a 50 percent tuition discount to the initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the scholarship recipients, their parents, and guardians, Mr Maidoki praised Bafarawa’s commitment to aiding underprivileged students and prayed for divine blessings upon his generosity.
Sagir Bafarawa, the initiative’s secretary, announced that plans have been completed to implement development projects worth N10 million in each of the 23 local government areas of the state.
“This initiative appreciates the immense support our founder received from the people during his tenure as a two-time governor of Sokoto State,” he stated.
He confirmed that the Giving Back Initiative is preparing similar projects for future execution.
In their addresses, Kabir Gobir and Hazmat Gwadabawa, proprietors of the involved colleges, expressed their appreciation and pledged to continue training competent health professionals for Sokoto State.
The events included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, the completion of scholarship agreements, and the presentation of award letters and cheques.
