Four Yobe Students Discharged from Hospital After Classroom Collapse

Four students from Government Girls Science and Technical College, Potiskum, Yobe State, who were admitted to the hospital after parts of a classroom block collapsed on Thursday, have now been discharged.
Only one student, Fatima Adamu, is still receiving medical treatment as she recovers from spinal shock.
According to nurses on duty, Adamu is making steady progress in her recovery, with only minimal trauma observed from the accident, which resulted in the loss of her classmate and close friend.
Adamu’s family, including her mother and sisters, who were at the hospital during the visit, expressed their appreciation to the hospital staff and school authorities for the care and support provided to her.
The classroom structure gave way on Thursday while students were gathered for a career guidance session conducted by an alumni team from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
During an interview with the media, the school principal, Adama Abdulkarim, explained that the collapsed classroom was part of an old building that had undergone renovations between 2009 and 2012.
“The students were waiting to be addressed by the ABU Alumni team when the building suddenly collapsed,” he stated.
The principal further mentioned that some classroom structures had deteriorated over time due to their age, though a few had been renovated in 2022 by the Bank of Industry and the National Information Technology Development Agency.
