FUDMA to honour First lady, Akpabio, others at 9th convocation
DUSTINMA (Sundiata Scholar) – Katsina State, The Federal University Dutsin-Ma, (FUDMA), Katsina State, is set to award the First Lady, Sen. Remi Tinubu with an honourary degree at its 9th convocation scheduled for Saturday.
Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, its Vice-Chancellor, disclosed this at a pre-convocation press briefing in Dutsin-Ma on Wednesday.
He said that the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, former Governor of Sokoto State and Alhaji Kabir Abubakar, a member of the House of Representatives would also be honoured at the convocation.
He said Tinubu would be honoured with a Doctorate Degree in English Language for her exemplary leadership in promoting girl-child education in the country.
“Remi Tinubu facilitated the release of some female students of the university who were kidnapped some time ago by bandits.
“After their release, the first lady also provided them with cash and scholarships,” he said.
Bichi said that a female hostel with a 36-bed capacity constructed with the institution’s internally generated revenue would also be named after her.
He said that Akpabio would receive an honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Science in recognition of his exemplary leadership and contributions to the growth of the institution.
Bichi added that Wamakko would be honoured for his contribution in promoting security in the university.
“Abubakar will be honoured for his continued support to the institution and for building two faculties, two hostels, as well as two lecture theaters for the university.”
The vice-chancellor also said that a Faculty building would also be named after Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State.
“All arrangements have been completed for the university to commence full academic activities at its permanent site as security in the area has improved,” Bichi said. (NAN)
