FUTA introduces MBA, other professional programs




The Senate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, has approved and introduced Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and other professional programs managed by the School of Professional Development (FUTA-SPD).

The establishment of the FUTA-SPD is expected to strengthen the University’s efforts in technological training and inventive development of professionals in all domains of human endeavour.

In an interview with journalists, SPD’s pioneer Director, Professor Tolutope Fakokunde, stated that the School will operate as a multidisciplinary and multidimensional business school with a focus on technical training for future development.

He added that the school targets the working class who are committed to furthering their academic careers in order to be at the forefront of driving Nigeria’s national goals of maintaining regional leadership and becoming one of the world’s leading economies by providing a cutting-edge approach to industrial manpower training.

“The FUTA-SPD operates uniquely in a comparatively high standard to a conventional business school model by offering skill development and leadership management training courses along all professional lines and areas of specialisations with greater emphasis on contemporary societal needs, innovation and modern technology application.

“At FUTA-SPD, participants from a wide variety of backgrounds are offered programmes of choice in line with their current professional engagements in the corporate world. Participants also have the unique opportunity to undergo varied online and offline knowledge-sharing studies targeted at enhancing their corporate experience and career development.

“Programme offers are relevant to today’s working-class world. These include short executive trainings, corporate seminars and career development courses leading to the awards of Professional Certificates, Diplomas, Masters and Doctorate Degrees in specialised areas which may be in affiliation and collaboration with certain recognised bodies and parastatals.

“The school is taking off with 10 approved programs which are suitably designed for professionals and working-class people willing to improve themselves academically and skillfully in their chosen fields and careers. Effective collaborations will also be sought with recognised professional bodies home and abroad, corporate organisations and government parastatals in this regard.

“The MBA is also specifically designed a new to meet current requirements and realities in the business world. It also embraces technology trainings and development for which FUTA is well known,” Professor Fakokunde told Tribune Online.

Among other things, the university don listed MBA options in (public and general administration; accounting and finance; logistics and transport; entrepreneurship and innovation; projects and operations management), Masters of Project Management, Master of Maritime Management, and Master of Road Safety Management.
