Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim-Yakasai has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, by Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.
Ismaila Dutse, the Public Relations Officer for the Office of the Secretary to the Government, made this announcement in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the selection of the new vice chancellor followed the university’s Governing Council’s recommendations, as required under the legislation that established the council.
It said, in part, “Prof. Yakasai is the Chairman, Departmental Quality Assurance Committee, Bayero University Kano (BUK), till his appointment.
“The new VC, who holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, has teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels, with significant quality supervision and valuable inter-disciplinary collaboration.
“He has a strong track record of research as evidenced by the quality of his papers in peer-reviewed journals. Besides his core area of education, he has also researched the Strategies for Human Resource Management in Local Government Administration.”
The statement added that Yakasai has “demonstrated academic leadership and provided community service,” adding that “he has served as Head of Department, Deputy Dean Student Affairs Department, and Dean, Faculty of Education at the same institution.”
Yakasai was born in 1960 in Garun Gabas, Malam Madori Local Government Area. He received his first degree in 1986 with a B. A. Ed. in Education/History from the BUK, followed by an M. Ed. in Educational Psychology from the renowned Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in 1991, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the same institution in 2000.
“He joined the services of the Bayero University, Kano in 1991 and rose from lecturer to Dean before he was appointed as Chairman. Departmental Quality Assurance Committee, Bayero University, Kano in 2021.
“He is a Professor of Educational Psychology, a member of the Nigeria Academy of Education, and Counselling Association of Nigeria.”
According to the statement, Yakasai’s appointment became official on December 5, 2023.
