LAGOS ( Sundiata Scholar) – A Training Academy, Global Transport Policy (GTP), has organised a one-day train-the-trainer workshop for the management of Lagos State University (LASU).
The training was on leadership skills and emotional intelligence.
The workshop with the theme: “Improving Your Leadership Skills: The Emotional Intelligence Options (Master class)”, was the sixth in the series.
The Chairman and Chief Consultant of GTP, Dr Segun Musa, said that the training was extended to the institution because university remained a foundation for good governance.
Musa said that LASU management needed leadership skills and emotional intelligence to manage the institution and bring forth better leaders coming in as students.
He noted that government could not meet the needs of all sectors, stressing that the training was a way to assist government and make positive impacts on Nigeria.
“One does not need to be in government before making impacts on the nation.
“All of us cannot be in government. We can impact to bring positive changes to the nation.
“University is a foundation for good governance and leadership, we are training management staff of Lagos State University, who in turn will train others in the institution,” Musa said.
Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor of LASU, thanked GTP for the training.
She said that the the workshop was useful.
“We are here to learn about emotional intelligence.
“I feel that no matter how educated you are, no matter how intelligent you are, no matter what your IQ is, if you don’t have emotional intelligence, you don’t achieve much,” she said.
Olatunji-Bello said that LASU management always showed empathy while discussing workers’ issues with their unions.
“We are now being trained as leaders on emotional intelligence, we are very happy to be here.
“We want to learn more, we want to improve our leadership skills. Anywhere we go, we will impact with the skills learnt today.
“The training will be taken to professors who are not here and our subordinates,” she said.
reports that more than 40 LASU management staff, including the vice-chancellor and her deputy (Administration), the registrar, librarian and deans attended the workshop. (NAN)
