Hardship protest: 3 Unicross students die in auto crash

Three Cross River State University students were killed in a vehicle accident while driving home after the university closed for two weeks to prevent students from participating in the hardship protest scheduled for August 1.

On Tuesday afternoon, the students boarded a bus bound for Ogoja in the state’s northern part when the disaster occurred.

It was gathered that the accident occurred near Ikom in the central part of the state, along the Calabar–Ikom highway.

An eyewitness, identified as Ndoma Akunobor, who was on the bus, stated the three students who died were from the departments of Microbiology, Plant Science, and Biotechnology.

The names of the students were not known at the time of filing this report.

The university’s management issued a circular ordering the institution’s closure for two weeks, from July 30th to August 12th, ahead of the nationwide protest scheduled to begin on August 1st.
