KADUNA (Sundiata Scholar) – In commemoration of the International Girl-Child Day 2024, the Partnership for Learning for all in Nigeria (PLAN), has urged the government and parents to take issues related to the girl-child seriously.
Its Team Lead in Kaduna, Mrs Diane Agabi, made the call on Tuesday in Kaduna during a mentorship dialogue for girls organised in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Board
(KADSUBEB).
Agabi decried that girls around the world were facing a myriad of challenges that were hindering their growth in life.
”Hence, the need to mentor the younger ones so as to equip them with the knowledge to overcome such challenges in life,” she said.
In a remark, the Safeguarding Advisor of PLAN, Hadiza Nasir, said that the session was part of their effort to encourage girls to have confidence in their ability to be where they want to be in life.
She added that the event was organised to support the state government in its effort towards educating the girl-child through mentorship and interactions with women who accomplished so much in life.
Highlighting the importance of the event, the Desk Officer, Gender Inclusivity Education of KADSUBEB, Hajiya Hauwa Muhammad, said the event would inspire the girls to be themselves.
She stated that the state government was working to ensure that every girl child was in school.
reports that the session had 50 girl students drawn from across different schools in the state.
They shared sessions with career women to learn about their challenges and how they overcame them to be where they were today.
The highlight of the event was the adornment of colours on the wall to signify the resilience of the girl-child.(NAN)
