Aboki Danjuma, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, has warned the people of the state to avoid engaging in activities that could lead to social unrest.
The police commissioner issued the warning in response to unidentified arsonists burning down the residence of Senator Frank Ibezim, an ex-senator who represented Okigwe senatorial zone in the 9th Assembly, as well as structures housing National Open University in Ezeoke Nsu Ehime Mbano LGA.
The Imo State Police Command, in a press statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, ASP Henry Okoye, characterised the occurrence as sad and an act with the potential to jeopardise the safety and security of communities in the state.
” The Command stands firmly against such acts and will take all necessary measures in synergy with other security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice” the statement said.
In response to the attack, CP Danjuma swiftly deployed the command’s tactical unit to identify and apprehend individuals responsible for the arson.
Furthermore, Danjuma directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the occurrence.
The Commissioner of Police stressed that no one involved in the attack will escape what he called the full legal consequences, stating that the command is committed to respecting the rule of law and ensuring justice is done.
He also advised the public not spread fake news or make provocative statements that could undermine the state’s existing peace. He cautioned that anyone found guilty of spreading misleading information will face repercussions.
Danjuma reminded citizens that the police, in collaboration with other security services, are committed to maintaining peace and order, and he urged them to help with law enforcement operations to protect their communities.
Before the incident, Senator Ibezim issued a public statement denying a rumour that the federal government intended to establish an IDP camp in Nsu Ehime Mbano LGA for individuals displaced by instability in the country’s north.
The state administration also denied the rumour, stating that what the federal government is attempting to do is construct an Acquisition Centre for the training of youths in the state.
