A 17-year-old student from Imo State University, Jesse Chidebere, was arrested by the Orji Police for allegedly faking her abduction and death, a stunt that caused significant distress to her family and the university community. Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the incident, noting the widespread alarm it created.
The case unfolded on Saturday when a distress message was sent via WhatsApp, indicating Chidebere had been kidnapped and killed, with instructions for her family to confirm the incident at the Orji Police Station. Following an intensive search, police located Chidebere on Sunday, finding that she was unharmed and had orchestrated the event as a social media prank.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, condemned the act as reckless, citing the unnecessary panic and misuse of police resources it caused. He urged parents to educate their children about the risks of such pranks, underscoring the police command’s dedication to maintaining public order and safety.
