JAMB – Benefits of Taking the Mock Examination

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, in an attempt to improve the performance of candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, introduced the mock UTME. The mock examination is the pre-examination test organised by the board that candidates take before sitting for the actual exam.
The board stated in this week’s issue of its weekly bulletin that the main purpose of the mock examination is to “enable candidates assess their level of preparation and acquaint themselves with the computer based test environment.” The mock examination was introduced in 2017 to give all candidates an opportunity to have a hands on experience with the system, especially for those not conversant with the use of computers.

The board stated that it sees the mock examination as an effective form of preparation for UTME, it says the exam has helped alleviate test anxiety, helps candidates identify problem areas, and it reassures them of their academic progress by erasing examination phobia.
The board said “there is no better way to study than to test what one already knows.” The mock exam provides candidates with the confidence they need to be as stress free as possible on the day of the actual text.
