Kaduna Launches Free Transport Scheme for Students, Civil Servants

The Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA) is set to begin offering free transportation services to civil servants, retirees, and students starting on Monday.

The Director General of KADSTRA, Inuwa Ibrahim, revealed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

He stated that civil servants, retirees, and students would be entitled to free transport for an initial period of six months.

He further noted that students attending both public and private institutions, from primary to tertiary levels, would benefit from this initiative.

He clarified that following the six-month free transport period, the general public would receive a 60 per cent subsidy on transport fares.

Ibrahim explained that this initiative highlights Governor Uba Sani’s dedication to the well-being of civil servants, elderly citizens, and students within Kaduna State.

He cautioned that the free transportation programme would be run with strict compliance to orderliness, security measures, and efficient service provision.

Ibrahim stated, “Civil servants will be granted access to the buses upon presentation of a valid staff identity card and a matching National Identification Number (NIN) to prevent misuse and ensure that only genuine government workers enjoy the free transport service.”

The statement went on to clarify: “Students from both public and private schools will be allowed to board the buses, provided they are in their complete school uniforms.”

“All personnel of recognised security agencies are eligible to access the buses upon proper identification.”

According to Ibrahim, the buses will operate across three routes during the free transport period.

These routes include Rigachikun–Kawo–Kasuwa–Sabo; Sabo–Kasuwa–Kawo–Rigachikun; Rigachikun–Kawo–Independence Way–Yakowa Road; and Yakowa Road–Independence Way–Kawo–Rigachikun.

Other routes cover Tudun Wada–Poly Road–Sokoto Road–Kawo, and Kawo–Sokoto Road–Poly Road–Tudun Wada.

The statement urged passengers not to engage in unnecessary rushing or jumping of queues while boarding the buses.

During his visit to Kaduna on 19 June 2025, President Bola Tinubu officially launched 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to help improve public transportation across the state.
